New Wave Typography (1976–1990)

Wolfgang Weingart's Basel experiments and April Greiman's California work broke the Swiss grid without abandoning its rigour. Columns are shattered and layered; photographic fragments overlap with geometric forms; halftone screens become decorative texture. Hybrid analog-digital, it announced that the rules had been understood and could now be broken intelligently.
