Neon Sign / Diner Americana (1930s–1970s)
The American roadside tradition of neon-lit diners, motels, bowling alleys, and drive-ins produced a distinctive visual language: glowing outlined letterforms on a dark ground, with the specific luminous halo that neon tubing creates. Las Vegas, Route 66, the mid-century American commercial landscape — signs that had to be legible at night from a moving car, made beautiful by the physics of excited gas in glass.
